10 Tips to Keep Your Skin Clear During Your Period

Learn 10 tips to keep your skin clear and healthy during your period, including staying hydrated, eating healthily, and avoiding touching your face

As much as we love being women, our menstrual cycle can be quite frustrating. During this time, our skin also tends to act up. Hormonal changes can cause acne breakouts, redness, and oiliness.

However, you can still maintain clear and healthy skin during your monthly flow. Here are 10 tips to achieve that:.

1. Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is always good for your skin, but it’s especially important during your period. Water helps flush out toxins in your body that can lead to pimples and blemishes. It also keeps your skin moisturized and glowing.

Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day.

2. Eat Healthily

Your diet also plays a big role in the health of your skin. Make sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your meals. Avoid greasy and sugary foods as they can cause inflammation and breakouts.

Foods high in vitamin A can help regulate the production of oil in your skin, while those rich in vitamin C can boost collagen and keep your skin firm and smooth.

3. Keep Your Face Clean

Washing your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser can help keep your skin clear. Cleanse your face in the morning and before bedtime. Make sure to choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.

Avoid using hot water or harsh products as they can irritate your skin.

4. Use Oil-Free Products

During your period, your skin tends to produce more oil than usual. Using oil-free products can help prevent clogged pores and breakouts. Look for moisturizers, sunscreens, and makeup labeled “oil-free” or “non-comedogenic.”.

5. Avoid Touching Your Face

Our hands carry a lot of bacteria that can cause pimples and breakouts. Avoid touching your face unnecessarily, especially if you haven’t washed your hands.

Also, resist the urge to pop or pick your pimples as it can cause scarring and further breakouts.

6. Exercise Regularly

Exercise not only benefits your body but also your skin. It improves blood circulation, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. It also reduces stress, which can contribute to acne and other skin problems.

Make sure to shower after working out to remove sweat and bacteria from your skin.

7. Get Plenty of Sleep

Getting enough rest is essential for maintaining healthy skin. Lack of sleep can cause stress, which triggers the production of cortisol, a hormone that can cause acne and inflammation.

Aim for at least seven hours of sleep each night to keep your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated.

8. Use Spot Treatments

If you do get a pimple during your period, don’t panic. Use a spot treatment with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria. Apply it directly to the affected area before bedtime.

Just be careful not to overuse it as it can cause dryness and irritation.

9. Wear Breathable Clothing

Your skin needs to breathe, even during your period. Avoid wearing tight clothing or synthetic fabrics that can trap sweat and oil on your skin. Choose loose, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.

Also, change your underwear and pads regularly to prevent bacterial growth.

10. Manage Stress

Stress can wreak havoc on your skin. It triggers the production of cortisol, which can cause breakouts and other skin problems. Find ways to manage your stress, such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.

Doing something you enjoy, like reading a book or taking a bath, can also help reduce stress.
