The winter season can be a wonderful time. However, for those who suffer from the common flu, it can be a very unpleasant season. Stomach bugs, chest infections, and colds can all take a toll on our health.

Furthermore, the cold weather can leave us feeling low and sluggish. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help avoid getting sick this winter. Here are some tips that can help you stay happy, healthy and flu-free.

1. Get Vaccinated

The most important step in protecting yourself against the flu is to get vaccinated. The flu vaccine is available at many doctors’ offices, clinics, and pharmacies. It’s quick, easy, and virtually painless.

And the best part? It’s highly effective at preventing the flu.

2. Wash Your Hands Frequently

Washing your hands is one of the easiest ways to keep yourself healthy during the winter flu season. Regularly washing your hands helps to prevent the spread of germs and viruses.

Remember to scrub your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds or longer – about as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice.

3. Avoid Touching Your Face

Germs and viruses can easily enter your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth. Make an effort to avoid touching your face, especially if you’ve been in contact with others who are sick.

This also includes sharing items, such as utensils and cups, which can be contaminated with germs and viruses.

4. Eat Nutritious Meals

In addition, remember to wear a hat or scarf to protect your head and neck from the cold.

If you do come down with the flu this winter, it’s important to take time off work or school to recover. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll also avoid spreading the illness to others.

Be sure to follow your doctor’s recommendations for getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and taking any prescribed medications.

10. Stay Positive

Staying positive and in good spirits can do wonders for your immune system. Laughter and humor have been shown to boost the production of antibodies and stimulate the body’s natural defense mechanisms.

So, even when you’re feeling a bit under the weather, try to stay positive and keep your spirits up.
