Oral burns can be a painful experience, but with the right practices, it can be easily managed. Here are ten practices to guide quick recovery

Burns on the inside of the mouth are a common occurrence and can range in severity. No matter the level of severity, recovery should be the topmost priority. Here are ten practices to guide quick recovery:.

1. Act fast

As soon as you experience a burn, act quickly. Hold cold water or ice cubes in your mouth, or apply a cold compress to the affected area. Doing so will reduce inflammation and soothe pain.

2. Drink milk or yogurt

Dairy products are highly beneficial for oral burns as they coat the inside of the mouth and lessen discomfort. Drink milk or yogurt to ease the pain and promote healing.

3. Take painkillers

Oral burns can be painful, and painkillers provide much-needed relief. Take over-the-counter painkillers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen to mitigate the pain.

4. Rinse with saltwater

A mixture of salt and water can soothe the pain and promote oral wound healing. Mix a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and rinse your mouth with this solution several times a day.

5. Use honey or sugar

Honey or sugar can be applied to the affected area to reduce discomfort and speed up healing. Simply place a small amount of honey or sugar on the burn and let it dissolve slowly.

Eating spicy or hard foods can cause further irritation to the affected area. Avoid spicy, crunchy, or acidic foods during the healing process. Stick to soft, bland foods such as oatmeal and scrambled eggs instead.

7. Over-the-counter ulcer medication

Over-the-counter ulcer medication such as benzocaine or lidocaine can provide quick pain relief for oral burns. Apply the medication directly to the affected area for temporary relief.

8. Chew gum

Chewing gum helps to produce more saliva, which can aid in the healing of an oral burn. Make sure to chew sugar-free gum as sugary gum can further irritate the affected area.

Smoking and alcohol consumption can slow down the healing process of oral burns. Refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol during the healing process.

Staying properly hydrated and rested is vital for quick wound healing. Drink enough water to keep the body hydrated and get adequate sleep and rest.
