The 15th Symposium on Ultrasound Cardiology was held on May 25th and 26th, 2019 at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, Greece.
This annual event is organized by the Hellenic Society of Ultrasound in Cardiology (HSUC) and brings together physicians, scientists, and researchers from all around the world who are interested in the latest developments and applications in the field of ultrasound cardiology.
Day One
The first day of the Symposium started with the opening ceremony which was followed by the first session of the day.
During this session, the speakers presented the latest advances in ultrasound imaging, such as 3D and 4D echo, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and intracardiac echocardiography. After the first session, the participants had the opportunity to attend the e-poster presentations and discuss with the presenters their latest research findings.
During the second session of the day, the topics covered were the diagnosis and treatment of various heart diseases and conditions, such as heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and coronary artery disease.
The speakers presented the latest guidelines and clinical trials on these topics and discussed the role of ultrasound imaging in the diagnosis and management of these conditions.
In the afternoon, the attendees had the opportunity to attend the workshops, which were focused on the practical aspects of ultrasound imaging in cardiology, such as image acquisition and interpretation, as well as the use of contrast agents and new techniques such as strain and shear wave imaging.
Day Two
The second day of the Symposium started with a session on the latest developments in the use of ultrasound imaging in the assessment of the right heart and the pulmonary circulation.
The speakers presented the latest research findings on these topics and discussed the limitations of current techniques and the need for further research and standardization.
The second session of the day focused on the use of ultrasound imaging in the assessment of cardiac function and hemodynamics.
The speakers presented the latest advances in this field, such as the use of speckle tracking imaging and 3D echocardiography, and discussed their potential clinical applications.
The final session of the day was dedicated to the use of ultrasound imaging in the assessment of valvular heart disease.
The speakers presented the latest guidelines and clinical trials on this topic and discussed the potential role of new techniques such as 3D printing and virtual reality in the assessment and planning of interventions for valvular heart disease.
Conclusion
The 15th Symposium on Ultrasound Cardiology proved to be a valuable opportunity for the attendees to learn about the latest developments and applications in the field of ultrasound imaging in cardiology.
The Symposium provided a platform for scientists, physicians, and researchers to discuss their latest research findings and share their expertise and knowledge. The organizers of the Symposium were able to bring together an impressive group of speakers who presented a wealth of information on the latest advances in ultrasound imaging in cardiology.
