Our souls are the core of our being and we need to protect them. While there are many good habits we can adopt to nurture our souls, there are also destructive habits that can lead to long term damage and even spiritual bankruptcy.

Habit 1: Negative Self-Talk

Negative self-talk is when we regularly criticize ourselves, put ourselves down and engage in negative thinking. This habit is destructive because it kills our self-esteem and creates self-doubt.

It’s hard to have faith in ourselves and in our dreams when we constantly tell ourselves we’re not good enough, not smart enough, not talented enough. To protect our souls, we must learn to love ourselves and let go of negative self-talk.

Habit 2: Addictions

Whether it’s drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling, or any other type of addiction, these habits can erode our soul.

Addictions are a temporary escape from pain or stress, but they ultimately lead us down a dark path, causing harm not only to ourselves but to those around us. To protect our souls, we need to ask for help, admit we have a problem and do the hard work necessary to overcome our addiction.

Habit 3: Dishonesty

We create harmful habits by being dishonest with ourselves and others. Whether it’s lying, cheating, or stealing, dishonesty eventually catches up with us.

It creates anxiety, mistrust, and dishonesty is a poison that seeps into our hearts, leaving us feeling disconnected from ourselves and the world. To protect our souls, we must commit ourselves to integrity, honesty, and transparency in all areas of our lives.

Habit 4: Envy and Jealousy

Envy and jealousy are habits that can destroy our souls by creating bitterness, resentment, and hatred. It’s easy to feel envious of someone else’s success, wealth, looks, or relationships, but these emotions can poison our minds and hearts.

Habit 7: Entitlement and Selfishness

Entitlement and selfishness are habits that create a sense of entitlement and expectation that everything should be handed to us.

When we feel that everything should go our way, we become angry, resentful, and ungrateful when life doesn’t meet our expectations. Entitlement and selfishness poison our hearts and minds, leading us away from true happiness and contentment. To protect our souls, we must practice gratitude, compassion, and generosity towards others.
