Dress for the Occasion

It may seem counterintuitive, but wearing long, lightweight clothing can actually help you stay cool in the heat. The key is to choose breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, and to opt for loose-fitting styles that allow air to circulate.

If you’re going to be spending time in the sun, be sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes and face from UV rays.

Plan Your Activities

The hottest part of the day tends to be between noon and 4pm, so it’s best to avoid outdoor activities during that time if you can. If you must be outside, try to stay in shaded areas, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or breezy spaces.

Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are serious conditions that can occur when your body can’t regulate its temperature properly. Symptoms can include nausea, headache, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and confusion.
