1. Weight Gain and Obesity

One of the most well-known effects of sugar is its contribution to weight gain and obesity. Sugar, particularly the added sugars found in sodas, sweets, and processed foods, provides empty calories with little to no nutritional value.

These empty calories can quickly add up and lead to weight gain if not burned off through physical activity. Moreover, sugar consumption is closely linked to an increased appetite and a reduced feeling of fullness, causing individuals to eat more calories overall.
