Perseus Gatoulis had a passion for football ever since he was a young boy. Growing up in Greece, he dreamed of becoming a professional football player, just like his heroes. Perseus was a talented player, but fate had other plans for him.
In a cruel twist of fate, he lost his leg in a tragic accident. But this setback didn’t keep him from pursuing his dream. Perseus worked tirelessly to get back on his feet and, in doing so, became an inspiration to millions of people around the world.
Growing Up
Perseus Gatoulis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1984. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for football and was always playing with his friends in the local park.
He joined the youth team of his hometown club, AEK Athens, when he was just seven years old. Perseus quickly rose through the ranks and was soon one of the star players on the team.
The Accident
When Perseus was 16 years old, tragedy struck. While on vacation with his family, he was involved in a car accident that left him with a severe leg injury. Despite the best efforts of doctors, Perseus’ leg had to be amputated below the knee.
It was a devastating blow for the young footballer, who thought his dream of playing professionally was over.
The Road to Recovery
Despite the setback, Perseus was determined not to give up on his dream. He started working with a physical therapist and began training with a prosthetic leg. It was a long and painful process, but Perseus was determined.
He spent hours every day working on his strength and conditioning, and within a few months, he was back on the football pitch. Perseus was determined to prove to himself and others that nothing could keep him from pursuing his passion for football.
Returning to Football
Perseus’ hard work paid off when he was offered a spot on the Greek National Amputee Football Team. He quickly became a star player, leading his team to victory in numerous national and international tournaments.

Becoming an Advocate for Amputees

Starting a Foundation
In 2016, Perseus started the Perseus Gatoulis Foundation, with the goal of helping amputees around the world.
The foundation provides financial support to amputees who can’t afford prosthetics or medical care, and works to raise awareness about the challenges that amputees face. Perseus’ foundation has already made a huge impact, providing support and resources to amputees in Greece, Africa, and Asia.
