Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and is a result of several factors including lifestyle choices and genetics. While you can’t change your genetics, you can control your lifestyle choices, including keeping your body active.

Exercise can help prevent cancer by improving circulation, boosting your immune system, and reducing inflammation. Here are four exercises that can help you maintain a healthy body and reduce the risk of cancer:.

1. Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise, also known as aerobic exercise, consists of any type of activity that gets your heart rate up and increases your breathing rate. Examples include running, cycling, or swimming.

Cardiovascular exercise has been shown to decrease the risk of several types of cancer including breast, colon, and lung cancer. Aim to get at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity cardiovascular exercise per week. split that time however you like. You can do it all at once or break it into shorter sessions throughout the day.

Start with what feels comfortable and gradually increase the duration and intensity as you get stronger.

2. Resistance Training

Resistance training, or weightlifting, can help prevent cancer by increasing muscle mass, which helps improve metabolism and regulate blood sugar levels. It can also strengthen bones, which is important for preventing osteoporosis.

Resistance training can be done using weights, resistance bands, or your own body weight. Aim to do this type of exercise at least twice a week, focusing on the major muscle groups like the chest, back, legs, and arms. Start with a weight that feels comfortable and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger.
