When I was a child, I was very easily confused. One day, I went to the park with my family and ended up with a lost and found experience that would forever change the way I saw the world.
Getting Lost
It was a sunny day and we decided to go to the park to enjoy the weather. I was playing with my siblings and we were having a great time when I needed to go to the bathroom.
I told my mom and she pointed towards the bathrooms and told me to go straight ahead.
I did as she said, but after I was finished, I couldn’t find my way back to where my family was. I started walking around, trying to find them, but I didn’t recognize anything. The park looked completely different than it did before.
The Search Begins
I started to cry and panic. I walked and walked, but couldn’t find my family. Then, I remembered a sign I saw before I went to the bathroom. It said “Lost and Found”.
I didn’t know what it meant, but I knew that someone who was lost should go there.
So, I went to the Lost and Found thinking that maybe my family was there. When I got there, I found a table with a lot of items on it. There were hats, gloves, jackets, and even bicycles. I wondered why people would lose their bicycles.
The Misinterpretation
While I was looking at the things on the table, an old lady came up to me. She asked me if I was lost and I nodded my head. She asked me if I needed help finding my family and again, I nodded my head.
She looked at me for a moment and then she said, “You don’t need to worry. You can take something from the table and someone will help you find your family.”.
I didn’t understand what she meant by that. I thought that if I took something from the table, my family would magically appear. So, I looked at the things on the table and picked a bright orange beanie.
I thought that if I put it on my head, my family would see me from far away.
The Reunion
With the orange beanie on my head, I walked around the park hoping that my family would see me. After a while, I saw my mom running towards me. She was crying and holding me so tight.
She told me that they were looking for me everywhere and that they were so happy to see me safe and sound.
She asked me where I found the orange hat and I told her about the Lost and Found. She laughed and explained what it was for. She told me that people lose things and that sometimes they come back to look for them.
The Lesson
After that day, I was no longer confused about what Lost and Found was. I learned that even though things may seem confusing, it’s important to ask questions and try to understand what’s going on.
Now, when I see a Lost and Found sign, I think back to the orange beanie and smile. It reminds me of a time when I was lost and confused, but eventually found my way back to where I belonged.
