Speaking up for yourself: a fairy tale for kids about sexual harassment

Once upon a time, in a far-off land, there was a little girl named Ruby. Ruby was a kind and intelligent girl who loved nothing more than spending time in the woods, playing with her animal friends and reading books.

She was happy and carefree, until one day, everything changed.

Unwanted Touching

One day, while running through the woods, Ruby found herself being followed by a man. At first, she didn’t think anything of it, but then she felt a hand on her back, pushing her forward.

“Excuse me,” the man said, “I just wanted to give you a little push.” But Ruby knew that something wasn’t right. She didn’t like the way the man was touching her, and she felt uncomfortable.

Understanding Inappropriate Touching

Ruby’s mother had always taught her about appropriate touching, and how no one should ever touch her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable or scared. She remembered her mother’s words and knew that what the man was doing was not okay.

“Please stop touching me,” Ruby said firmly, pulling away from the man’s grasp. “I don’t like it when people touch me without my permission.”.

Speaking Up

The man seemed taken aback by Ruby’s confidence, and for a moment, he tried to explain why his touch was harmless. But Ruby knew that it didn’t matter — he had no right to touch her without her permission.

“I said stop touching me,” Ruby said, her voice growing louder. “I don’t want you anywhere near me.” And with that, she turned and ran back to her house as fast as she could.

Talking to a Trusted Adult

When Ruby arrived home, she told her mother what had happened. Her mother listened carefully and hugged her tightly.

“I am so proud of you for speaking up for yourself,” her mother said. “Now, let’s call the police and report this man’s behavior.”.

The Importance of Speaking Up

Ruby learned an important lesson that day — she had the power to stand up for herself, to say no when someone made her uncomfortable, and to trust her instincts when things didn’t feel right.

She also learned that she could always turn to her family for love and support.

It wasn’t always easy to speak up, but Ruby knew that it was always the right thing to do. And she lived happily ever after, always remembering the importance of trusting herself, speaking up, and staying safe.
