Below are the steps to take if you have hurt yourself:.

If the injury is severe, do not hesitate to seek emergency medical assistance right away.

Stop any Bleeding

If there is any bleeding, apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. Elevate the injured area above the heart to reduce blood flow and slow any bleeding that may be occurring.

Ice the Injury

Applying ice to a fresh injury can help reduce swelling and pain. Wrap a bag of ice or a cold pack in a towel and apply it to the affected area for about 20 minutes at a time. Do not apply ice directly to the skin, as this can cause further damage.

Compress the Injury

Wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage once the bleeding has stopped and the swelling has gone down. This will help to reduce swelling and provide support for your injury.

Do not wrap the bandage too tightly though, as this can cut off circulation.

Elevate the injured area above the heart to reduce swelling and speed up the healing process. Prop up your leg with pillows if the injury is on your leg, or use a sling to prop up your arm.

If needed, take over-the-counter pain medicine such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. These medications can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

Rest the Injured Area

As much as possible, rest the injured area to allow your body to heal. If the injury is located on your leg, use crutches to avoid putting weight on the affected area. If the injury is on your arm, use a sling to keep it immobilized.

Seek Medical Attention
