Sex is an enjoyable part of life for many people, and the idea of making love in water can be a tempting prospect. However, as peaceful as it may seem, sex in water is far from a good idea.

Even though the thoughts of ocean, pool or even a hot tub sex seem alluring, in actuality, it can be quite dangerous and unhygienic.

1. Risk of infection

Water is not a clean environment, and it can harbor many bacteria and viruses. Engaging in sexual activity in water can expose you to various infections, such as bacterial vaginosis, hepatitis A, and UTI.

No matter how fresh or clean the water seems, it is never 100% pure and carries the risk of infection.

2. Disruption of lubrication and condom efficacy

Water can disrupt natural lubrication, leading to discomfort and pain during intercourse. In addition to that, condoms lose their efficacy in water, and the chances of it falling off pose a risky situation.

A water-based lubricant could come in handy when having sex in water, but still, the efficacy of a condom fails to ensure the prevention of STD’s and unwanted pregnancies.

3. Risk of Drowning

Sex in water pose some severe risks of drowning. Water is slippery, and when added to vigorous sexual activity in water, the risk of slipping increases. The situation could get out of hand, and it could lead to drowning in the worst-case scenario.

4. Risk of injury

Sex in water also increases the chances of physical injury. Certain water bodies have uneven surfaces or rocks, which could lead to cuts or bruises. Vigorous sexual activity in the water could also lead to sprains, muscle strains, and dislocations.

5. Risk to Pregnant Women

Pregnant women are not advised to have sex in water as it increases the risk of amniotic fluid embolism, commonly known as AFE. Amniotic fluid can enter the mother’s bloodstream, causing blood clots, organ failure, and death.

This is a severe condition and can cause immediate complications.

6. Risk of dehydration

Sexual activity requires a lot of energy, and water sex does not provide a means of hydration. The hot water in hot tubs and spas also causes sweating, leading to dehydration.

Sexual activity in water should be avoided to prevent dehydration, which could lead to dizziness, nausea, and headaches.

7. Increased risk of UTI

Water Sex increases the risk of UTI. The bacteria-laden water can enter the urethra, leading to a UTI. A UTI is not only uncomfortable but can also become a severe health condition if left untreated.

8. The risk of Engaging in Public Disrepute

Water sex can result in public indecency and disrepute. It may be tempting to make love during a beach holiday, but waterside sex can land you in trouble with the law, resulting in hefty fines or even jail time in some countries.

9. The risk of Impaired Judgment and Intoxication

Water sex is often associated with alcohol consumption, which can be detrimental. Drinking and having sex reduce the capacity to make appropriate judgments, leading to risky behavior.

It is worth noting that sex in water should be done in a sober state without the influence of alcohol or drugs.

10. Risk of emotional trauma

Though it is not a health risk, sex in water can leave an emotional scar. Some people may feel ashamed and guilty about the experience afterward, leading to emotional trauma.

It is essential to discuss if sex in water is appropriate or not with your partner.

Conclusion

Water sex may seem alluring, but it comes with various risks that outweigh its benefits. From infections to drowning and emotional trauma, the risks are enormous. Even with the ease it provides with lubrication, it is not a safe method of contraception.

In conclusion, sex in water is not worth the potential risks and should be avoided.
