4 Uncomplicated Signs of Pancreatic Cancer

Discover the four uncomplicated signs of pancreatic cancer that you should watch out for. Learn more about the symptoms of pancreatic cancer and why early detection is crucial

Pancreatic cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the pancreas. It is a serious disease that requires urgent medical attention.

Pancreatic cancer often does not cause any symptoms in the early stages, and the signs and symptoms are often vague and may be easily mistaken for other conditions. However, there are some uncomplicated signs of pancreatic cancer to watch out for that should not be ignored.

Sign 1: Jaundice

Jaundice is one of the most prominent and noticeable signs of pancreatic cancer. It causes the skin and eyes to take on a yellowish or orange color, as the build-up of bilirubin, a yellow pigment, cannot be processed properly by the liver.

Jaundice may occur with or without itching, and may be accompanied by dark urine, pale stools, and a generalized sense of malaise. In some cases, jaundice may be the first visible symptom of pancreatic cancer.

Sign 2: Pain in Upper Abdomen

Pain in the upper abdomen, which can sometimes be mild or severe, may also be a sign of pancreatic cancer. The pain may come and go or be persistent and may also be accompanied by weakness, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss.

This is because the pancreatic cancer tumor is growing and causing pressure on the surrounding organs and tissues, including nerves.

Sign 3: Digestive Problems

Digestive problems can occur when a pancreatic tumor is blocking the bile duct or the pancreatic duct, leading to digestive difficulties. Signs of digestive issues may include unexplained diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

The pancreas is a gland that produces enzymes to help the body digest food. When the pancreas is affected by cancer, these digestive enzymes may not be secreted properly, leading to digestive problems.

Sign 4: Unexplained Weight Loss

Unexplained weight loss is another sign of pancreatic cancer. Weight loss can occur due to a lack of appetite or due to the cancer cells using up the body’s resources.

Weight loss is considered unexplained when a person loses weight without trying to do so. Rapid weight loss is never a good sign, and if it occurs unexpectedly, it should be checked out by a doctor.

If you experience any of these signs or symptoms, it is essential to get medical attention immediately. Early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer can help improve the chances of successful treatment.
